Seven new arrivals at Corrib Gun Dogs! Our Irish Setter bitch "Corrib Bess" gave birth to a beautiful litter of puppies today. This was a repeat mating of a successful litter in 2015 which was sired by Ray O'Dwyers Irish Setter dog "Sheantullagh Griffin". See the pedigree of this litter in our Irish Setter Pups section. These pups will be ready for their new homes around the end of February 2017.

FTCh Lurriga Cedar of Corrib aka Carra comes third today at Clodagh Valley Field Trials Association's Open Stake at Curraghmore, Co Waterford. Very happy with Carra's run, however her first retrieve was not so good with her thinking she knew more than me! But her work after that was very clean. Looking forward to the Championship at the end of the month.

About Corrib Gun Dogs

CORRIB GUNDOGS: Breeders of Labradors, English Springer Spaniels and Irish Red Setters for “Field and Family”.

Corrib Gundogs is based in Co. Clare, Ireland and is owned by Paul O'Brien.

Paul is a very keen rough shooter and loves hunting over his gundogs and has enjoyed so for over twenty years now, their main quarry would be Woodcock, Snipe, Pheasant and Duck.

Paul’s Father Michael bought Paul his first gun dog for his 12th Birthday back in 1992, a Black Labrador Retriever Bitch named Sally. She was a daughter of Tony O’Donnell’s FTCH Darby. Tony gave Paul some great help as a boy in how to train a Labrador for the field, since then Paul has been hooked on gun dogs.

Paul started field trialling Labradors in 2010 and he has made up four Field Trial Champion Labradors, Bitch FTCh "Corrib Ruby" and her litter mate brother FTCh "Corrib Mafi" and their half-brother FTCh “Corrib Warwick”. Warwick was placed 4th in The 2014 Irish Retriever Championship. Paul’s fourth Field Trial Champion was FTCh "Lurriga Cedar of Corrib" aka "Carra". Carra is a daughter of FTCh “Corrib Mafi” and like her father Carra is an excellent game finding bitch with lovely style and drive and she is an honest bitch and is now one of Corrib Gundogs brood bitches who is producing quality pups. “Corrib Brooklyn” aka Brooke is Paul’s next companion for field trials and he has Brooke qualified for Open Stake and she has earned two green stars after her first field trial in 2016 and Paul is looking forward to next season with Brooke on the field trial circuit with the hope of her becoming Paul’s next FTCh! Also coming on is two young pups Corrib Darcy (born 2015) and Corrib Brooklyn (born 2016) out of FTCh Lurriga Cedar of Corrib and by Int FTCh Waterford Galahad Of Tasco, both these Labrador Retrievers like their mother have lovely style and drive with excellent noses. Paul is enjoying his team of young dogs and is very much looking forward to the future with them. Paul served his time and worked his way up the Judging panels of The Irish Kennel Club to become an “A” Panel Judge for Section Two “Retrievers”. Paul enjoys Judging and especially enjoys Judging Novice Trials and to be able see first-hand the young and upcoming future Retrievers. Paul has travelled abroad to judge and train and he is looking forward to the future to more judging appointments in Europe and further afield.

Ruby, Mafi and Warwick are all out of his own shooting bitch "Ralahine Nightjar of Corrib” aka “Bailey”. Bailey was bred by Head Gamekeeper David Atkinson at Dromoland Castle Estate Shoot where Paul worked as a Gamekeeper.

Paul learned so much more about gun dogs and game from his experience as a gamekeeper picking up and in the beating line which stands to him today when training gundogs for the Shooting Field. When breeding pups at Corrib Gun Dogs Paul likes to breed from dogs that he has seen working for himself. This way you know the dogs are sound in every way and you can see where the pups are taking their style, ability and character from.

We take a great deal of care in trying to ensure our gundog breeds are of breed standard in looks and temperament. Not only do we supply gundogs to working homes we also have our gundog pups going to family homes too.

Stud dogs, trained dogs, part trained dogs and pups sometimes available. Please contact Paul for further details 086 8604532
